Open Leadership and Sociability: A Trend of Amplified Organization

Amplified Organization > Open Leadership and Sociability
Open Leadership and Sociability
Open collaborative platforms enable networked teams to self-organize and support ad hoc leaders. New connectivity tools support flexible, self-organizing networks. This new mode of collaboration—sociability—is best facilitated by building open platforms for leadership, which allow different team members to contribute when they deem most appropriate and effective.

Ways to Start Taking Action
  1. Involve students in your professional learning community
  2. Join or form a professional learning community, such as Classroom 2.0, to pursue ongoing professional development, support other educators, and organize with colleagues
  3. Follow colleagues' activites and locations at Plazes and Jaiku
  4. Contribute to or create a "citizen reporter" newspaper such as OhMyNews
  5. Host an Innovation Jam to engage students and teachers in developing new ideas for learning

Chuck House, executive director of Media X, Stanford University's membership research program on media and technology, talks about the new skills needed for 21st century jobs.

In this article from the September 2009 issue of Phi Delta Kappan, Monica Martinez explores how students and others who have grown up digital are collaborating actively to create products, services, and experiences.  In so doing, she asks what kind of learning experiences would take advantage of this trend to "ensure that students are collaborative and critical thinkers who can find problems and solve problems to improve our collective future."
