Personal Learning Ecologies: A Trend of A New Civic Discourse

A New Civic Discourse > Personal Learning Ecologies
Personal Learning Ecologies
Families look outside the traditional “system” to create ecologies of learning experiences. Families will leverage the emerging learning economy to cultivate their own ecologies of learning resources. School will be part of this ecology, but it will play different roles for different families, and it won’t be the only player in the wider learning ecosystem.

Ways to Start Taking Action
  1. Provide coaches to help students select appropriate learning experiences
  2. Create a network in your community like the Berkeley Parents Network and read this article about it
  3. Learn more about homeschooling options:
  4. Let parents and students know about the summer camp directory at mysummercamps.com
  5. Explore how Independent Educational Consultants can help families find the right opportunity for children in college, grad school, or special programs

Tom Munneke, who turned a shed in his backyard into a science laboratory for kids, says that one way to add excitement and enthusiasm to education is to have adults and peers do more teaching.
